The Western region is comprised of Niagara, Erie, Chautauqua, Cattaragus, Orleans, Allegany and Wyoming counties. The Women and Children's Hospital in Buffalo, Erie county is the only regional perinatal center in the Western region. The Buffalo Prenatal-Perinatal Network is the only perinatal network in the region.
The Western region is a combination of rural areas, including farms and vineyards, and urban areas such as Buffalo, Niagara Falls and Olean. Therefore, the challenges of women, children and young families differ amongst the geographic diversity of the region.

The Buffalo Prenatal-Perinatal Network, Inc operates the New York State Department of Health funded Comprehensive Prenatal Perinatal Services Network Program which targets Erie County. As a not-for-profit organization BPPN also supervises a Community Health Workers (CHWP) program; a Healthy Families New York-Home Visiting Program and a Community Action for Prenatal Care program. These programs offer a variety of direct consumer focused services that concentrate on improving maternal child health in specific Erie county zip-codes targeted as high-risk communities. Services include pre-conception, prenatal and post-postpartum education, outreach and support, infant and toddler information and education, parent support and education; assistance with seeking and obtaining maternal child health care and health care coverage, navigation of high risk pregnant women to drug and alcohol treatment services, collaboration with an array of community based programs and services via networking etc.
